The Berry Center established Our Home Place Meat in 2017 as a cooperative for small-to-midsize livestock farmers to sell grass-fed meat to regional markets. Beginning in our home place – Henry County, KY – we are building a healthy food and farm model that can be replicated in communities throughout the country.

Rethinking the possibilities of grass-fed beef

Believing that food should reflect local culture, Our Home Place Meat brings you a taste of a Kentucky tradition – Rose Beef.

Rose Beef is our designation for milk-fed, grass-fed yearling cattle. Our farmers use traditional farming methods, raising animals on a natural diet that eliminates industrial feedlots.  

The result is our signature rose-colored meat – a tender, flavorful alternative to conventional veal and beef. 

Our practice of processing cattle at a younger age was the regional tradition before the encroachment of industrial meat production. Under industrial systems, most calves are sent to distant feedlots where they live in crowded, unsanitary conditions. In contrast, Our Home Place Meat livestock are raised on grass and are ASH-free (no antibiotics, steroids, or hormones).

Our cattle are always free to roam verdant pastures with unlimited access to their mothers’ milk.  All the while, our farmers are working to protect the land, strengthen the local economy, and provide your family with exceptional grass-fed Kentucky beef.
