Katie Ellis joined The Berry Center as Managing Director in January of 2014. She was raised on a family farm in Boyle County, Kentucky, where three generations of her family continue to farm together. She attended the University of Kentucky where she studied both agricultural communications and community and leadership development.
She spent four years following the tobacco buyout partnering with farmers and civic leaders to build entrepreneurial capacity and encourage agricultural diversification throughout rural Kentucky. Most recently, Katie has worked in both operations and grantmaking at a statewide foundation. She brings experience in nonprofit operations and an understanding of rural issues to her work at The Berry Center.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Community Development Society, a group of practitioners and researchers working to foster sustainable communities.
